Why You Need To Ditch Kerosene

Kerosene Lantern

The stories have been coming for the past 3 months or so, the ever rising cost of Kerosene from your various neighbourhoods. Kerosene is now gold

The price of kerosene now rivals the price of fuel in Nigeria, no longer for the  'common man' . A woman says now, she spends N200 a day, over N2,500 a week  for her cooking. Kerosene is not sold at the retail price because end users can only purchase from retailers who have bought from the filling station, not to mention the scarcity problems and stories of fires caused by kerosene.

There is also the lesser known problem with Kerosene and that is the health implications of uses kerosene lanterns and stoves. 69,005 die every year in Nigeria from the use of solid fuels, many thousands have breathing difficulties caused by these types of fuels, thereby putting a strain on our healthy system.

Some even use firewood to cook food for their families because it is more cost effective than kerosene but is it healthy? No it is not.; rather it is depositing carbon into their bodies and reeking havoc on our climate causing deforestation in different parts of the country. This is unsustainable especially in Nigeria where the rate of poverty is still very high.

Governments and agencies like the Global Alliance for cook-stoves,   all over the world recognise these problems and are encouraging and funding great initiatives like green cook-stoves all over the world to eliminate all these problems relating to our health and our  pockets.

On the carbon credit network, we partner with the UN and other agencies to present the Kike cook-stove to the average Nigerian. With this stove there is no more Kerosene, no more Co2 emissions and no more breathing problems caused by inhaling  the smoke emitting from the Kerosene.

Single burner kike cook-stove

Kike cook stove uses a bio fuel gel made primarily from ethanol, the by-product of the gel is oxygen and water, We know it sounds incredible but it is true. The gel is safe to use in the home around children because even when you forget your food while cooking, as long as the gel burns completely the fire will go out.

Bio fuel gels

The gels are also pocket friendly coming at N150 for 0.75, N600 for 3 Ltr to N1000 for 5 Ltr

The Kike cook stove and the gel are innovations that will go along way to reduce the indoor air pollution we are currently experiencing in different parts of Nigeria.

Have you switched to Kike cook-stove yet?
